Korčula greets visitors behind medieval ramparts whose stones catch the afternoon sun in a warm glow. The harbor nestles boats like driftwood against a glassy sea, while terracotta rooftops spill down the hill in orderly tiers.
To reach this island town, we boarded the ferry in Split bound for Vela Luka. The two-hour crossing delivered fresh sea air, passing small islets and fishing nets before we disembarked to explore Korčula’s winding lanes.
Inside the walls, alleys wind past shuttered doorways and moss-green balconies draped in bougainvillea. Each turn reveals moments of calm: the hush of a silent piazza, the echo of footsteps on smooth limestone.
Beyond Korčula’s perimeter, olive groves and vineyards climb gentle slopes toward hidden coves. The island’s landscape feels both cultivated and wild, inviting a slower exploration of earth, stone, and sky.
